ARTHROPLASTY

• It is an open joint surgery which is performed to repair structural problems and disc surgery.

JOINT REPLACEMENT

• For the treatment of severe TMJ disorder, implants can be surgically placed in the jaw to replace either part or all the temporomandibular joint.
• This approach is intended for people who have severe pain or extremely limited function and have not responded to other treatments.

ORAL SUBMUCOUS FIBROSIS (OSMF)

• Oral Sub mucous Fibrosis is a condition characterized by stiffness of oral cavity or inability to open the mouth or inability to eat.
• Burning sensation in oral mucosa, progressive restriction in mouth opening, blanching of the mucosa, depapillation of the tongue and loss of pigmentation are other classic features.
• This condition can be corrected by operating the patients by removing all the stiffed muscles and grafting it with nasolabial flap by oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
• This is called the mouth opening surgery, frequently operated at BIMS by one of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon of the state.
• This mouth opening surgery is a major surgery where the intraoral fibrosed, stiffed muscles are removed and the skin from outer side of the face is grafted inside the oral cavity, followed by harsh mouth opening exercises to be done by patients for over a period of time.

TREATMENT OF MUCORMYCOSIS

• Treatment of mucormycosis needs to be fast and aggressive.
• Most patients will require both surgical and medical treatments.
• Aggressive surgical debridement of the infected area followed by antifungal medications.
• Recently at BIMS, during post COVID-19 mucormycosis condition, our oral and maxillofacial surgeon and its team had operated many mucormycosis patients with a remarkable success rate.
